I
have lived in Bohol almost all my life, travelled all over the province a countless
of times already, but this is my very first time to do a real Visita Eglisias.
I did this last April 13 & 14, 2006 with my husband and our 3 children. We
drove practically around Bohol, starting from Tagbilaran City taking the north
coastal road. We slept in the town of Ubay, then on the 2nd day, we continued
our journey back towards Tagbilaran city, this time, taking the eastern coastal
road from Alicia, took a side drive to Anda. Aside
from the wonderful white beaches and the beautiful rivers, Bohol is also rich
in culture & history evidenced by the existence of many amazing old churches.
It was indeed worthwhile doing the Visita Eglisias finally, to personally experience
and see as many churches in Bohol as possible. For our 2-day trip around Bohol,
my family was able to visit 25 churches.
CORTES We decided to
take the north road heading to Ubay from Tagbilaran City. Our first stop was in
Cortes, which is only about 10 kms. from the city. The church of Cortes is
an old Spanish church made of coral rocks. | | Church

On our way to the next town, we passed by
the beautiful Abatan river, which is one of the many live rivers of Bohol. This
river is still to be tapped as another tourist attraction, aside from the famous
Loboc river. | | | Frontage

MARIBOJOC Few kilometers away from Cortes
is already Maribojoc, another coastal town of Bohol. This is my first time to
get a closer look of this old church since this is not located along the main
road. Everytime I pass by Maribojoc, I only see the roof of its church. We still
have to enter an access road from the main road, to get to the church grounds.
I was so amazed upon seeing this church. It's another beauty. Another
side of Maribojoc church. | Me and my husband were so amazed that we took
a lot of pictures of the outside and the inside of the church. However, due to
limited space, we can't post all of the pictures we took here.
While we
were in the church, we kneeled down and say our prayers of thanks for the opportunity
of being able to visit this beautiful church and for all other blessings.
We
were not able to go to the back of the church though, which has the view of the
coast.

The windows of the church were
strategically positioned that natural lights pass through them and make the inside
of the church well lighted, even without the electric chandeliers turned on.
The
ceiling is hand painted with undescribably beautiful artworks. The church organ
was located at the upper left portion next to the main entrance. I don't know
though if the instrument if still being used until these days.
