LEGEND
| |
SAN ROQUE ( 1902 ) - The barangay of San Roque was known as
Aghao for many years. In this place was a deep well where people use
to quench their thirst. One day while some people were looking down
the well, they were much surprised when they saw a big lizard -like
reptile ( called " hawo " in Visayan dialect ) inside
the well that seem to be having its soothing drink. The people did
not use the well for quite a long time believing that the water inside
was already polluted. When the well was used again,, people would
remind the well users of the lizard - like creature they once saw
by saying ' Ag hawo ". Every time when people would drop by the
well for a drink, naughty companions always say " ag hawo
". For many years the barangay was popularly called as Aghao.
The place was later renamed as San Roque in honor of their patron
saint.
