tantly, the tradition and culture of the town.
"After meeting with the different government sectors in our
town, including some private sectors, the response was encouraging.
Staging a festival amid economic uncertainties and challenge to
national security may have seemed to be difficult and untimely,
but our town mates have proved to be committed and unwavering in
spirit and devotion." he said. Redulla added that his administration
is very much inclined to programs that would promote tourism and
eventually boost investment promotions in the locality.
The celebration kicked-off with a Holy Mass at the Maribojoc Cultural
Center which was followed by a Grand Parade along the town's major
thoroughfares. A short program was also prepared to allow guests
and local officials to deliver their foundation day messages. In
keeping with the theme "Tradisyon ug Kulturang Maribojocanon
Palamboon",
the people lined up the streets to witness the grand parade. Shortly,
they proceeded to Maribojoc Cultural Center where a program and
salo salo awaits them.
Under the heat of the afternoon sun, 8 contingents garbed in colorful
costumes caused "hysteria" among the spectators who patiently
waited for the "Sabay sa Dungguan 2003" street dancing.
Among the contingents were LGU-Maribojoc, Busao National High School,
Pagnitoan National High School, Department of Education represented
by the Lincod Elementary School, Barangay Health Workers/Nutrition
Scholars/Day Care Workers, St. John Association, Kahayag Association
and Exaltacion Association.
Aside from the minor awards, the Kahayag Association "mananabays"
grabbed the first prize award, closely followed by St. John Association
in the second place and Exaltacion Association for the third place.
Other contingents were awarded with consolation prizes.
Mrs. Elizabeth Racho, the Street Dancing Chairwoman and Municipal
Budget Officer said the activity is a fitting tribute to Maribojoc
forebears who molded and influenced the town's culture. The Foundation
Day Street Dancing labeled "Sabay sa Dungguan 2003" was
initiated to retrace the town's culture and tradition.
Mayor Ben Redulla, the overall chairman of the Maribojoc Foundation
Day Celebration promised a bigger event next year if given the opportunity
to serve for his last mayoralty term in the May 2004 elections,
adding the Maribojoc officialdom were overwhelmed by the success
of this year's celebration. WING VELOSO
